Rasputin is coming back to rock!

by andy on August 17, 2015

We are very excited to announce that seven years after its last production at the Henley Festival, we are returning with a brand new version of our comedy rock musical Rasputin Rocks! with book and lyrics by Andrew Hobbs and music by Alistair Smith. This comedy musical was written to appeal to fans of hard rock and heavy metal music as well as those who enjoy modern alternative musical theatre. Set in Russia in the near future, it features an insane Russian Emperor who, having been diagnosed with a terminal illness, decides to take the whole world with him in a global nuclear dawn. He has also discovered that the legendary Rasputin has never in fact died, but after his would be assassins failed to kill him, they instead chose to freeze him in a vast underground icy prison, which the Emperor has now located and released him from to aid him in his evil plan. Only hero of the free world Tony Blair and a group of revolutionaries obsessed with the cheesier aspects of Western culture stand between them and armageddon. All this happens to a soundtrack of classic rock, with a little doo-wop, country, funk, Russian death metal and of course some good old fashioned musical theatre all thrown in for good measure. We’ll be presenting a workshop showcase to the theatre industry this autumn and then getting plans together for a full production in 2016 so watch this space for more news!
